On medical Match Day, wishing the spouses well

Trying to explain Match Day and all its attendant stresses and excitement is tough.

Partly I suspect that’s because it’s tough to cram a couple years’ worth of work into a few short paragraphs: It’s not like Match is just one day. Rather, it’s the culmination of years of work.  It might take a whole book to explain (I’m working on that).

Last week, I started trying to explain to a general audience what Match felt like from a spouse’s point of view. I heard from people that they now better understood the process. And I heard from spouses as well – they definitely understood the process.

The words “Match Day” still raise my blood pressure a little. I am, right now as a write this, raising my morning mug of tea to everyone who goes through Match, including (and especially) the spouses.

Good luck to everyone packing boxes and getting ready for the next stage of the adventure.

Here’s the original story.
